30 Day Skincare Glow Up

In the last few months I have started noticing a something a bout my skin.

It looks gross.

Seriously. That’s the only way I can describe it. It’s been more and more noticeable but for whatever reason I’ve kind of ignored it. I’ve always been so lucky with my skin. Despite the fact that it’s sensitive and eczema-prone, I’ve found products that work for me and generally it’s been clear, and smooth. Right now I’ve got a horribly congested chin, it’s dull and dry, and you can basically see my pores from space.

Whether it’s age, stress, or lack of care (or a combination of all three!) I’ve realised that I need to step it up and start making the effort.

I’ve always been pretty skeptical about the importance of a good skin care routine but I think that’s because I’ve been able to get away with a very laidback non-routine. So I thought for 30 days, I’m going to go all in with a new approach to my skin and see what happens.

My Current Routine consists of taking my make up off with coconut oil, and then once or twice a month I use a mild exfoliant, and always moisturise. All the products are listed over on this post!

I don’t wear much make up unless I’m going ‘out out’ but clearly this non-routine is really not working. So here’s my plan:

Drink More Water

Clearly a no brainer, but my water intake is absolutely shocking. I used to drink at least 2 litres a day but recently it’s more like 2 glasses. Everyone knows a dehydrated body leads to dehydrated skin, so this is step number 1 in my skincare routine overhaul so I can try and get my glow back!

Two-step Cleanse

With soap. Controversial.

Many people including me have always been told not to use soap on your face. It’s drying, and strips your skin of it’s natural oils. Supposedly.

However I’ve been seeing rave reviews about Dove’s Micellar Soap Bar.

As I get on really well with their shower gel I thought I may as well give it a whirl! My plan is to still use coconut oil as it removes make up SO easily, but I will follow that with a soap cleanse to remove any final traces.

Use a homemade Toner

Cleanse, tone and moisturise is skincare routine 101. But I’ve always been bad at the toning part. My problem has always been that I couldn’t find a toner which didn’t irritate or dry out my skin! And if I found one that was ‘ok’ it was generally very expensive.

So over to my trust Pinterest I found some DIY toner recipes using all natural ingredients. Using this as inspiration I came up with my own recipe based on the needs of my skin. It contains: witch hazel, rose water, and a few drops of lavender oil. Hey, if it’s good enough for Mario Badescu it’s good enough for me!

The combination should not only soothe my skin, but remove any last traces of dirt, refine my pores and help with any red patches.

Anti-Aging Moisturiser

It’s about time I invested in a decent anti-aging moisturiser because ya know, I’m 30 now so I gotta deal with these facts. Again where I’ve been stuck in a comfort zone of using my go-to products I’ve been wary of trying out new options. However, I was recommended Eucerin’s moisturiser and they make products for sensitive skin so I felt quite confident giving it a go. It’s not exactly cheap but my experience so far is that a little goes a long way.

Plus as it’s on the heavier side I’m only using this at night, and sticking with my lighter moisturiser during the day so it should last a long time.

Nighttime Facial Oil

Clearly cleansing and toning my face to within an inch of its life is going to leave my already naturally dry, sensitive skin feeling a little vulnerable. So the last step in my new routine will involve one simple ingredient.

Pure, vitamin E oil.

Just a small amount, but not only is it great for restoring moisture but also for it’s anti-aging properties – win win.

So for the next 30 days I’m going to stick at it and will be taking progress pictures of my skin, and do a before/after. Follow me on Pinterest to make sure you don’t miss the results!
